SWAN Project Cook Book Is Underway!

Picture
Here's a fun project for everyone everywhere who is interested in eating! You can help raise autism awareness, support a great cause, and make a difference from the comfort and convenience of your own kitchen. Simply send in your favorite recipe! All proceeds from cookbook sales will be used to benefit families who have children and loved ones with autism.

Recipes can be traditional, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, ethnic, or a even a favorite family recipe that has been handed down thru the generations. Easy, affordable, time saving recipes that can help us simplify our lives will be especially helpful, but send in the yummy ones too even if they are a little more involved - for those special occasions!

COOKBOOK SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

TELL US YOUR STORY:
Join in the fun as we exchange yummy recipes, share our successes, and celebrate our victories, and talk about all things eating in a unique cookbook that will offer a little something for everyone!
Along with traditional recipes, we're looking for recipes to address a wide variety of tastes and dietary needs. Many children (and adults too) have food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances. Some find that certain special diets help them and their child feel better. Many of us have kiddos who are stuck on only a few foods that they will eat.
Another challenge for some families living with sensory kiddos on the spectrum is eating out at restaurants. Meal times at family get-togethers and holidays can also be a big challenge. We want to hear from you! Send in a short story of 300 words or less, along with a picture if possible, telling us how you manage meal times, eating out, holidays, picky eating, etc. We want to help normalize eating experiences for our families, and encourage others to let them know they are not alone in their eating journeys on the spectrum. Eating CAN be an enjoyable and successful experience for everyone!
The deadline for submitting recipes, stories, & artwork (see contest info below) is August 31st. The goal is to have this cookbook published, printed, and ready just in time for gift giving at the holidays. READY - SET - LET'S GO!

Cook Book Cover Art Contest!

Picture
Announcing an opportunity for your child to earn a cash prize of $50, PLUS have his or her art work featured on the cover of the SWAN Cook Book! All art work must be the child's original handiwork and have a theme relevant for a cookbook such as eating, cooking, food, family mealtime, etc. - creativity and imagination are encouraged!. Any medium can be used such as colored pencils, crayons, paint, acrylics, water colors, etc. Send artwork unfolded, on an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper placed between cardboard protectors in a large easy-to-see envelope addressed to:

SWAN, ATTN: Art Contest, 1501 E Pythian Street, Springfield, MO  65802

Parents understand that by submitting their child's artwork to be published in the cookbook it becomes part of a not-for-profit fund raising event with all proceeds from the sale of the cookbook benefitting families who have children and loved ones with autism.. Please include your child's first name and age with the artwork. If they are able, have them share the message of the artwork along with what inspired them to make it - besides the $50! :0)

The cash prize will be awarded at the SWAN meeting on September 12th, 2015 where all submitted artwork will be displayed. A final vote will be taken and the art piece with the most votes will be displayed on the cover of the book. This contest is not so much about who has the most artistic talent - as it is about expression, creativity, and sharing our children's amazing imaginations!  Every child who submits an original piece of artwork will be rewarded with a prize, and have their work displayed on one of the pages inside the cook book.

We look forward to hearing from you - and working together on what is going to be a useful, creative, and unique keepsake cookbook your family will treasure.
