Making Christmas Brighter For Soldiers Overseas
November's SWAN meeting is coming up! This is a wonderful opportunity for the kids to come together as part of a team to focus on service to others!
Shoe Boxes For Soldiers is a campaign started by Rhonda Lutrell, a mom of a soldier who was deployed overseas. She sent care packages to her son who was deployed to Afghanistan, only to find out many of the other soldiers in her son's unit seldom received anything from home.
In an effort to help spread cheer to other soldiers she organized a campaign to send care packages to troops deployed overseas to show them they are not forgotten. This was the beginning of Shoe Boxes For Soldiers!
Between now and November 17th SWAN will be placing collection boxes around town to collect items from area businesses, churches, and schools.
In the meantime, your child can ask family members, friends, and neighbors to consider donating some items from the suggested donation list below to bring with you on the 19th.
On the 19th we'll gather at The Arc of the Ozarks to write handmade cards for the troops, assemble the boxes, and decorate them.
Please bring a covered dish, drink, or dessert to share!
