What a great time was had by ALL - this concert ROCKED! Quite literally. Our hearts are so full. Many thanks to Roger and Janet Replogle, and the incredibly talented musicians who performed pouring their heart and soul into this amazing benefit concert.
The proceeds from this concert are being shared between the Mind Institute and SWAN. Roger and Janet felt it important to include a parent organization, and we are so grateful. The proceeds will be used to provide much needed respite for parents during our monthly meetings, as well as for organizing fun activities for kids and families.
Too often, families living with autism find themselves isolated and unable to participate in mainstream community events with their children. Couples often struggle to find quality time to spend together because there just aren't a lot of folks who are able to provide care for their children with autism.
Service providers and mental health professionals who provide therapies and services for children cannot do it all. It is ultimately up to parents to take the services and therapies their children receive, and help them generalize them across all the settings of their lives.
However, parents are often left with few resources and opportunities to do that. SWAN is dedicated to helping parents find ways to fill in those gaps so the whole family can have easier access to information, social opportunities, and respite that can help them lead a better quality of life.
Equipping parents to help their children, each other, and themselves is an important part of the circle of care every child with autism deserves in order to reach their full potential.
The support of our community partners is vital!
In honor of children with autism everywhere, Randle Chowning wrote a special song that was debuted at this night's event. All proceeds will be shared by SWAN and the Mind Institute. You can download the song by clicking on the following link:
